Drama

Drama builds confidence. We aim to put on one full production a year which includes everyone from Reception to Year 2. This years' production 'The Grumpy Sheep' was set in the Chapel at Malvern College.

Design and Technology

We made puppets in Design and Technology with Mr Smith in the Prep School classrooms and then performed to the children in Reception and Year 1

Dance

In the Pre Prep, dance is taught as a lesson each week based on the Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Syllabus and Jazz based on the syllabus from the Imperial Society of Dance. You can also opt for extra ballet lessons as individuals or in small groups which enables you to work towards exams.

Music

Music lessons with Mr McDade from Malvern College

Children can start to learn to play an instrument in the Prep Prep. Every child is taught to play the recorder and  joins the Junior Choir.

Sport

Pre Prep enjoy PE, Games and swim regulary each week.

The Pre- Prep

The staff in The Downs, Malvern College Pre Prep form a caring and dedicated team and their love of their work is reflected in the enthusiasm that they bring to the form room.
Staff interact with all the age groups in Pre Prep at some point during the day whether it be in the classroom or at play.

Leisurely lunches are enjoyed together in the dining room when children are encouraged to appreciate their food and are guided in their use of good table manners.

As your child moves from the Early Years department into Reception, we continue to offer your child a unique experience in a friendly, safe and secure environment that encourages exploration and self-expression. Life in Reception is a wonderful experience.  The children’s days are filled with fun and play in a rich and stimulating environment.

Silence is not a sound usually heard in Pre Prep, as any visitor will tell you!
There is a healthy buzz of children enjoying their work, exploring language and creativity.
All our children are special but some have needs that require extra support in a caring and sympathetic way.

We offer a mixed day of formal instruction within a warm, friendly atmosphere to encourage exploration and self-expression in our less structured lessons.

Trips off-site afford the children opportunities to have first hand experience of professional productions, handling artefacts and bring science and history to life exploring themes in a practical way.

As children move into Year 2 around the age of 7 years they are gently introduced to the Prep school site. The children are enthusiastic about the changes and challenges that this has to offer and their confidence and self-assurance that has grown throughout the year is very evident as we visit various areas of the Prep school site.  It is always sad for us to see the children move on from Pre Prep but they, and we, relish their return visits when they are able to confidently relate their new-found experiences in ‘big school’.

Our happy environment allows our children to grow in self esteem and confidence, eager to tackle whatever life has to offer them.

Our pupils are well-rounded happy people.

Pre Prep has good academic standards and prides itself on its friendly and caring ethos.

Our Christian values are reflected in enthusiastic charitable fundraising.

Our school has a strong Christian tradition in which pupils are valued, and courtesy and thoughtfulness are fostered.

Mini Malvern is The Downs, Malvern Prep Schools' holiday club and is based in the Pre Prep Department during each school holiday. It is available to all current pupils in the school and is bookable in advance. The name 'Mini Malvern' is a derivative of 'Young Malvern' which is a hoilday activity course based at Malvern College for four weeks in the summer holiday and is open to any prep school aged young person.

Pre Prep Boarding

In the summer term Year 2 can join the Thursday Night Junior Boarding Club which gives them the opportunity to experience flexi boarding before they move into the Prep School. Each term the Boarding House opens its doors to Pre-Prep children and holds a sleep over weekend with special activities for the younger children.
