The Governing Body appointed Mr Alastair Cook as Headmaster of The Downs, Malvern College Prep

Mr Cook took up the post on 1st September 2009.
Our Celebration of Completion 25th April 2009
 | The previous headmaster welcomes everyone to the Celebration of Completion. |
 | 62 balloons were launched, one for each child who started in the new Pre Prep in September 2008 |
 | Rachel Walker, Hockey Olympian and ambassador for 2012 Olympics opened our new astroturf pitch following a training session with our first team hockey players. Ben Cooke, Boys' Hockey Captain and Worcestershire County player gave the vote of thanks. |
 | The legendary cricketer Graeme Hick opened the Covent Garden Sports Centre. William Pettipher who gave the vote of thanks explained that the field upon which the sports centre had been built had been used to grow vegetables to feed the pupils during the war, hence the name Covent Garden. |
 | Once the formalities were over pupils and parents joined in the 'Its a Knock Out' event put on by the Friends of the School. |
The Event was held to celebrate the completion of the £6 million investment into the development of the site which included:
- Purpose built Montessori Early Years Department with its own Forest School classroom.
- Extended Pre Prep with Reception Hall and Library
- Completely renovated Boarding House with provision for 50 Boarders
- Sports Centre
- Hockey astro pitch
- 3 Tennis/Netball courts
- 5 extra teaching rooms
- Wired network for Apple Macs and white boards.
